Donegal Youth Service is tackling bullying again next week with the ‘Stand up awareness week’.
Stand up week addresses homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying in secondary schools and youth services by encouraging friendship and positive understanding of LGBTQ+ young people.
This year you can take part in Stand Up Awareness Week from the 14th to the 18th of November.
How can I take part in Stand Up Awareness Week?
This Stand Up Awareness Week you can help tackle LGBTQ+ bullying in many ways:
- Stand up for others if you see them being targeted online, don’t be a bystander – support your friends, demonstrate that you’re by their side.
- Share messages of support for LGBTQ+ friends.
- Speak to your Guidance Counsellor or Youth Worker to discuss how you can take part in Stand Up Awareness Week.
- Take time this Stand Up Awareness week to learn more about the issues facing LGBTQ+ young people and how to be an ally to them.
Take Part with BreakOut!
During Stand Up week the BreakOut group in Donegal Youth Service will be baking ‘Rainbow Cupcakes’, showing off the groups pride with Window Painting, T-shirt Decorating, and creating a ‘Rainbow Balloon Arch’.
We are delighted to be taking part in a radio interview with Highland Radio Letterkenny on Monday the 7th of November. Tune in to hear about our LGBTQ+ group.
On Saturday the 12th of November we will be supporting the LGBTQ+ community with the ‘Chalk It Up’ event. This event gives you the opportunity to show off your creative side, while meeting new people in the community. So, come along and help support your friends, family, and community by writing a positive message of support, at the An Grianan Theatre, Letterkenny at 2pm on Saturday the 12th of November
