SF survey shows ‘grim reality’ of housing crisis in Donegal

Deputy Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has said the findings of a new Sinn Féin survey highlights the reality of the housing crisis in Donegal and across the State.

“Since this Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael led government took office, there has been a sustained and dramatic increase in house prices and rents in Donegal and across the State,” he said.

This government, and the Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien, he added, have made what was a bad situation, worse.

“As a result, an entire generation of young people are locked out of the housing market. Their lives are on hold, their mental health is suffering, and they are leaving Ireland in their droves once more.”

He said some of the stories highlighted in the survey are an indictment of the government’s housing policy.

“What we need is real ambition. A Sinn Féin government would deliver the largest social and affordable housing programme in the history of the State,” Deputy MacLochlainn claimed.

“We would deliver thousands of homes at prices people can actually afford. We would protect renters, ban rent increases and cut rents. That is the housing plan we need for our people in Donegal”.
