Extremely heavy rain showers have hot several parts of Donegal leading to substantial surface water on roads this evening.
Drivers are being warned to take extra care with heavy downfalls in a number of towns including Letterkenny, Ballybofey and Lifford.
Some flooding is being reported in a number of places.
Roadside water is reported in a number of places and motorists and cyclists are asked to take extra care if passing through flooded areas.
A Garda spokesperson said “We would ask people to slow down and to take extra care in this period of bad weather.
“There is a lot of surface water and this provides for hazardous driving conditions.
“Motorists should know that it takes a long period of time and a long distance to brake in an emergency in wet weather.
“If people are out walking we would also ask them to make sure they are well lit-up and that they stay on the footpath at all times.
“We would ask them not to take any chances especially during this spell of bad weather.”
Donegal’s Road Safety Officer Brian O’Donnell has also pleaded with drivers to slow down and buckle up.
