It is a Christmas tradition that has been ongoing for many years.
Most of us are lucky enough to be able to have dinner with family or friends but some are not.
The annual Christmas dinner has been taking place in Conwal Parish Hall in Letterkenny for the last 16 years.
For those living on their own, it is a chance to come together on December 25th, enjoy a lovely meal, but most of all, to have some company.
One of the organisers, Kathy O’Connor, said their purpose is to help break through isolation and loneliness and bring people together to celebrate Christmas day.
“We are delighted to say that we will be offering a sit down meal at the Conwal Parish Hall thanks to support from Dom’s Restaurant in Donegal Town and the Ray Community Centre who have offered us the use of their kitchen,” Ms O’Connor said.
“We also have support from Chambers of Commerce, local businesses and from people in the community who provide soup and desserts. We have approximately 40 volunteers on board every year to make this event a great success.”
Due to demand, and concerns over Covid, they will also be offering deliveries and a dinner on a plate in areas outside of Letterkenny.
As you can imagine, this is also a costly exercise. So, a GoFundMe page has been set up and all monies donated will go directly to buying dinners.
