The death has taken place of former Carndonagh businessman, Patrick H Doherty.

Mr Doherty, of Church Road, passed on Tuesday aged 82.

He ran the newsagents on Bridge Street, having worked in the family business from the age of 16.

He is survived by his wife Teish and children, Pearse, Aideen, Dervla, Nuala, Triona and Darragh, his 11 grandchildren and his brothers John (Dublin) and Aiden (Ballybofey).

Mr Doherty was an honorary member of Carndonagh GAA and a trustee of Ballyliffin Golf Club. A tribute from Ballyliffin GC said they were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of their Past Captain, Past President and Trustee.

“Paddy contributed much to the development of the club and gave many years of valued service on Council,” the club said.

Paddy is the son of PH Doherty, Company OC Carndonagh, OC 2nd Battalion, 2nd Donegal Brigade during the War of Independence.

Two years ago, Paddy and Teish took part in the Donegal ‘Echoes of the Decade’ Oral History project in which they were a wealth of rich knowledge on life in Donegal in the twentieth century
