Bundoran needs a new Garda station as well as more Gardai to patrol the town.
That was the call made by Councillor Michael McMahon at the latest Joint Policing Committee held at County House in Lifford.
Councillor McMahon said the population of the seaside town can swell from 2,000 to anything up to 8,000 during festival season.
He added that as it stands the town has just four serving Gardai an a Garda station that is not “fit for purpose.”
“As far as I know the Garda station does not have a proper canteen where Gardai can eat. Quite simply it is not fit for purpose.
“Also to try and police a town with just four Gardai is not possible and the number of Gardai also needs to increase,” he added.
Garda Superintendent Sean Grant said he will raise the concerns with the Superintendent in Ballyshannon and did suggest that there were new recruits coming out of Templemore and hoped some would be deployed to Donegal.
