Drunken pensioner, 72, hassled kids outside teen disco

December 2, 2022

A 72-year-old pensioner who “hassled” youngsters outside a teenage disco in Letterkenny has been ordered to make a €100 donation to Foroige.

Edward Lapsley appeared before Letterkenny District Court under the Public Order Act.

The court was told that on October 29th, 2019 at 9.50pm, Lapsley was drunk and “hassling” teens.

He moved on and stumbled into a wall before being arrested by Gardai at the Ramelton Road.

His solicitor, Mr Donough Cleary, said his client was on medication for Crohn’s Disease as well as anti-psychotic medication and this had been mixed with alcohol.

He added that it was more of a case of “general untidiness” saying he did not actually hassle the teenagers.

Judge Cunningham said she was ordering Lapsley to pay a donation of €100 to Foroige and said she would fine the accused €200 in default of the donation.
