Donegal and border counties are set to be hit with the worst of the winter weather this week, that’s according to Head of Forecasting at Met Éireann Evelyn Cusack.
As the cold snap nears, Ireland is bracing for an Arctic airmass bringing snow, ice and sharp frosts.
“It is going to be a very cold week,” Evelyn Cusack told Newstalk Breakfast.
An incoming cold front on Wednesday night will bring some “hail, sleet and snow showers”, particularly to Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan and Northern Ireland.
“The air temperatures by day will be just about 0° and down to -5° at night, -6°,” Ms Cusack said.
People are being urged to get winter ready before the lowest temperatures hit from Thursday – Monday.
A weather advisory is already in place until Sunday, warning of sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on roads. Showers of hail, sleet, and snow will occur during the second half of the week.
