Met Eireann has issued two nationwide Status Yellow warnings as the cold snap hits on Wednesday night and Thursday.

The first ice warning is from midnight Wednesday into Thursday morning.

“A band of wintry precipitation will sink southwards with the potential for black ice/freezing rain on surfaces, ” Met Eireann said.

This warning is valid from 00:00 Thursday 08/12/2022 to 12:00 Thursday 08/12/2022.

On Thursday night, a  low temperature and ice alert warns of hazardous conditions ahead as a sharp to severe frost may cause icy surfaces on roads and paths.

Temperatures widely will fall to – 4 degrees Celsius.

The warning is valid from 10pm Thursday night to 10am Friday morning.

A winter weather advisory remains in place until Monday morning as the  Arctic airmass sets in, bringing sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on roads.

“Showers of hail, sleet, and snow will occur during the second half of the week,” forecasters warn.
