Donegal County Council gritters will be in action from 3pm this Thursday evening ahead of a bitterly cold night.
Met Eireann has issued a new weather alert for Donegal only, warning of three days of snowfall from Thursday to Saturday.
“Scattered sleet and snow showers will give some accumulations, especially on high ground,” forecasters said.

An ice warning is also in place for all counties tonight until 12noon Friday.
There will be a sharp to severe frost with icy surfaces, as temperatures widely fall to – 4 degrees Celsius. Hazardous conditions and some freezing fog patches are likely.
The wintry weather is set to last into early next week.
