Donegal Gardai have urged drivers to slow down and to check their tyres before going ion the roads in the current cold snap.
Roads were treacherous overnight and the cold snap is set to continue in the coming days.
There have been a number of minor accidents reported across the county.
Gardai have urged motorists to check their tyres before turning the key in the ignition.
A spokesperson said “Weather conditions are due to deteriorate with frost/snow on the forecast and so it is advisable to drive with extra caution.
“We urge all drivers to slow down. Always keep an eye on the speed at which you are travelling. Ensure that you are travelling within the legal speed limit. Speed can and does kill.
“Check your tyres regularly and even more regularly when the tread depth reaches 3mm. The legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm. The more worn your tyres become, the less grip they will have on the road surface.
“Please play your part and help save lives on the roads.”
Despite the freezing conditions Buncrana Roads Policing Unit detected a number of vehicles travelling in excess of the speed limit.
One driver was stopped after being detected travelling at 132KPH in an 80KPH speed zone and the temperature had reached 0°C.
