Over €1 million in funding has been secured by Tech North-West Skillnet to assist local companies to improve the skill levels of their employees over the next three years.

Tech Northwest Skillnet is a multi-sector business network for companies of all sizes in Donegal, Sligo, and Leitrim. Funded by the National Training Fund through the Department of Further and Education, Research, Innovation, and Science, it was established eleven years ago.

Welcoming the funding confirmation, Network Manager for Tech North-West Skillnet, Siobhan Grant said: “New technologies in areas such as cyber security present global opportunities for people living in sunny Donegal or Leitrim.

“This allocation is a massive vote of confidence in Tech North West Skillnet and will benefit people of all ages. Skillnet allows people to complete short, sharp practical courses which boost their chances of career progression in the ever-evolving tech sector.”

Letterkenny Chamber of President CEO and Tech North-West Skillnet Steering Group member, Toni Forrester, commented: “Having been involved from the outset with Tech North-West Skillnet, I have seen hundreds of businesses benefit from local, practical, and affordable training. These businesses range from Optum and TCS in Letterkenny to smaller employers such as Atlantic Marine in Killybegs and the Food Hub in Dumshanbo.”

“Tech North-West Skillnet has been up and running since 2011 and is spearheaded by Donegal ATU. Skills and training are priority issues for employers, so this type of investment helps businesses attract and retain staff, and gives them a competitive edge. Tech North West regards itself as part of an eco-system that encourages a love of learning through other skill training providers,” she added.

Echoing Ms Forrester’s sentiments, fellow Tech North-West Skillnet Steering Group member, Philip McGonigle of MLMG Cross Border Accountants in Buncrana, said: “I’m thrilled with the commitment from Skillnet Ireland and excited about the opportunity to work with Donegal ATU to improve the skills levels of employees and performances of local businesses.”
