Books of Condolence have been opened in three Donegal County Council offices to allow the public to pay tribute to the fallen soldier, Private Seán Rooney from Newtowncunningham/Dundalk.
The Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr. Liam Blaney, has announced that books are now open in Lifford (County House), Letterkenny Public Services Centre and Carndonagh Public Services Centre.
Private Seán Rooney was killed in Lebanon on active duty undertaking Peace keeping duties with the 121st Infantry Battalion, UNIFIL.
The peacekeeper’s remains were flown back to Ireland from Beirut overnight. The family of the 23-year-old were reunited with his remains at Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel this morning.
Arrangements for Pte Rooney’s funeral are yet to be finalised.
