Donegal County Councilhas today published its Gender Pay Gap Report for 2022, revealing a Mean Gender Pay Gap of 0%.

The gender pay gap is the difference in the average hourly wage of men and women across a workforce. Employers with more than 250 employees in Ireland are now required to publish their gender pay gap data arising from the Gender Pay Gap Information Act, 2021.

The 2022 report shows a Mean Gender Pay Gap of 0% and a Median Gender Pay Gap of -11.04% in the council.

The Median Gender Pay Gap shows that the median rate of pay for females is 11.04% higher than the median rate of pay for males.

The mean is the average. It is calculated by getting the difference between the average hourly rate of pay for males and the average hourly rate of pay for females (male hourly rate minus female hourly rate), expressed as a percentage of the male hourly rate. The median is the figure that falls in the middle of a range where the salary of all relevant employees is listed, from the lowest to the highest. This can provide a more accurate representation of the ‘typical’ differences in pay.

The gender breakdown of the council staff force was 71% male and 29% female on 30 June 2022.

A spokesperson said: “Publishing our gender pay gap data helps to reinforce our focus on supporting an open and inclusive workplace at Donegal County Council. Our organisation is a place where all employees have the same opportunities for recognition and career development and are treated fairly and equitably at work. We continue to be committed to addressing workplace barriers to equality and creating an open and inclusive workplace community. Many equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives and supports are already in place, and we will continue to work in this area.”
