Gardaí are investigating a major act of alleged criminal damage at a popular golf course in west Donegal.

More than 100 fencing posts were either pulled down or cut and discarded at the Narin and Portnoo Golf Club.

The incident occurred some time between Sunday, December 11, and Monday December 19.

Fencing wire was also cut and discarded.

Garda Sean Sweeney said there have been a number of similar incidents at other golf clubs around the country in recent months.

He added that the Donegal Crime Prevention Officer, Sgt Paul Wallace, is available to offer security advice for local golf clubs.

Anyone with information in relation to the Narin incidents should contact Ballyshannon Garda Station on 071 9858537 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
