Sadness at passing of well-known Donegal priest

The death has taken place of Very Reverend Dan O’Doherty, retired parish priest of Dunfanaghy and formerly Kincasslagh.

Fr O’Doherty passed away today at the age of 88 in the care of St Eunan’s Nursing Home, Letterkenny.

Ordained in 1961, Fr O’Doherty went on to serve in communities all across the Diocese of Raphoe, namely Ballybofey, Rathmullan, Letterkenny, Arranmore, Killybegs, Fintown, Milford, Kilclooney, Burtonport and Dunfanghy (PE).

He was parish priest in Kincasslagh/Burtonport from 1985 to 2000 before his move to Dunfanaghy.

Fr O’Doherty received his primary education in Ballyheerin National School, Fanad and his Secondary Education in St Eunan’s College, Letterkenny. He studied for the Priesthood at St Patrick’s College Maynooth

A spokesperson from the Diocese of Raphoe expressed sincere condolences to Fr Dan’s family and all who mourn his passing. 

Funeral details to be confirmed.
