Buncrana artist Brigid Birney has spoken of her “beautiful privilege” of painting a crib at Knock Shrine this Christmas.
Brigid had the honourable task of painting the backdrop of a crib which is on display in Knock Parish Church.
Brigid, who now lives in Kinlough, has been bringing religious themes into her art for a number of years. It was Brigid’s powerful greeting cards that caught the eye of Anne Labin, Head Gardener and florist at Knock Shrine, who then asked her to paint the backdrop of a special crib that would be filled with sculptures.

“I really enjoyed working on that project,” Brigid said.
The crib will remain on display until 6th January.
Brigid’s Christian pieces also include Christmas and Easter art for her local church in Kinlough. In 2020, one of her paintings of St Brigid’s cross was beamed up onto the front of the General Post Office (GPO) in Dublin to mark St Brigid’s day.
