Dungloe helps Leon to ‘live free in 2023’ as GAA club raises €210,000

It was a competition with a difference.

In a world when all GAA clubs are striving for new fundraising ideas, An Clochan Liath came up with the idea of helping someone to live free in 2023.

The idea was to hold a draw which would allow the winner to forget about money worries for the coming year with a €500 a week prize.

Leon Smith was the eventual winner with the Galway man also picking up a number of other prizes including a holiday in Dubai and tickets and accommodation for the All Ireland hurling and football finals.

And the unusual draw has proved a winner for Dungloe GAA club too.

Club members worked really hard and managed to sell out all tickets in the draw meaning they pulled in more than €210,000 for their new pitch.

Get the thinking caps on for the 2023 fundraisers now lads.
