Two Donegal athletes have been nominated for Outsider Magazine’s Person of the Year Award.

Ed McGroarty and Caitriona Jennings have both been nominated for the award for their terrific achievements in 2022.

Lifford-Strabane athlete McGroarty broke his own National Record at the 24hr European Championships in Italy in September.

He ran a total of 258.82km in the 24 hour challenge, adding on to his own record he set the year before of 256.57km in Belfast when he became the first Irish athlete to break the 250km mark. He also set a new Irish 100-mile record in 2022.

Meanwhile, Letterkenny AC’s Caitriona Jennnings is also up for the award.

Jennings, who won Irish Athletics’ Irish Ultra Runner of the Year for 2022,  claimed gold at the first edition of the IAU 50Km European Championships in Spain as she crossed the finish line in a time 3.19.42 having broken away from the pack after the halfway point of the race.

She also now boasts the Irish record for 50 mile & 100km, as she took bronze in the IAU 100km World Championships in Berlin in August, finishing in 7.07.16.

She also received the International Performance Award at the Ulster Star awards this in November.
