Eilish and Roisin Flanagan have been named the Irish Times’ Sportswomen of the Month for December.

The Finn Valley AC pair were instrumental in Ireland’s Senior Womens team winning the bronze medal at the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Italy.

The Gortin twins were the first two counters for the Irish team as Eilish finished in 11th place and Roisin was in 12th in 27:38 at Mandria Park in Turin.

Mary Mulhare of Portlaoise AC was the third and final counter for the team as she came home in 27th to give Ireland a score of 50, beating Spain to third place by five points.

Letterkenny AC’s Ann Marie McGlynn was in 31st, finishing in 28:40.

Remarkably, Eilish wasn’t originally apart of the Ireland team, but due to an illness suffered by Ciara Mageean, Eilish was drafted in and ended up as the first Irish finisher.
