Motorists are being urged to avoid Meenaroy due to heavy snow.

We are receiving reports of long tailbacks due to the condition of the main Fintown to Letterkenny road.

A number of vehicles have also become stuck.

Council gritters are due to arrive there shortly.

Glengesh, between Ardara and Glencolmcille, is also reported to be impassable due to snow.

Send us your snow pictures to info@donegaldaily.com or post them here.

Updates to follow.

Earlier, Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow ice warning for all of Ireland.

The alert comes into effect from 6pm this evening until 12 noon tomorrow.

“Icy stretches are likely on Sunday night and Monday morning. Hazardous travelling conditions are expected, especially on untreated roads and footpaths. Some patches of freezing fog are also possible,” the Irish meteorological service said.

A similar warning has been issued for the Six Counties by the UK Met Office, valid from 6pm today until 10am tomorrow.

Motorists are advised to check their tyres before driving on icy roads. The Road Safety Authority says that if the thread depth of a tyre falls below 3mm, then it should be replaced.
