Two fishermen have been rescued after their boat sank off Tory Island early this morning.
The men’s mayday signal was picked up at 5.58am by members of the Malin Head Coastguard Coordination Centre.
They carried out a mayday relay call to members of the Rescue 118 helicopter service, Arranmore Lifeboat, Tory Island Coastguard and also a local fishing vessel in the area the Ave Maria.
The fishing vessel was the first on the scene and when they arrived they found the two men on the scene in an emergency liferaft vessel.
The men’s 36 foot crabbing vessel had sank but the men were safe in the emergency liferaft.
The weather conditions were calm at the time.
The men and their emergency liferaft were taken back to the pier at Magheraroarty where members of Bunbeg Lifeboat met the fishermen.
The men were checked over but did not need medical attention.
A spokesperson for Malin Head Coastguard told Donegal Daily “It was a successful operation and the two fishermen followed procedures.”
