As heavy snow blankets much of the county today, the artic airflow is set to last until Thursday night.

Met Eireann has issued two further weather warnings for Donegal during the current cold spell.

A weather advisory has been extended until midnight Thursday due to snow, sleet, hail and sharp to severe frosts and icy stretches on roads and footpaths.

Meanwhile a status yellow snow/ice warning has been issued for Donegal until 9am on Wednesday.

Today will remain very cold with temperatures ranging from 2-5C. Tonight will see more snow showers and a chance of thunder and hail. Lowest temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees tonight.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) will be another day of sunny spells and scattered wintry showers.

The outlook for the rest of the week warns of temperatures dipping below freezing each night until the weekend: “Remaining chilly with occasional wintry showers, although temperatures are expected to increase by the weekend.”
