Man who threatened bar owner after being refused drink is fined

January 18, 2023

A man who became threatening after being refused service in a pub has been fined in court.

Gardai were informed that a man refused to leave Rosie’s Bar in Drumkeen.

When they arrived at the scene on June 26, 2022, officers saw Peter McNamee arguing with the bar owner.

When asked to remove himself, McNamee refused and when asked by Gardai to comply with directions, he also refused.

“He was being threatening and abusive,” Sergeant Gerard Dalton told Letterkenny District Court.

“He was demanding to be served, but was refused.”

McNamee, a 34-year-old with an address at St Bridget’s Crescent, Drumkeen, was arrested.

Solicitor, Mr Donough Cleary, said the incident was ‘most unfortunate’.

“This licensed premises in Drumkeen is essentially the entire social activity,” Mr Cleary said.

“He had a dispute with another individual and was effectively barred. He wasn’t aware of this and hence his reactions.”

Mr Cleary said his client has since left the locality.

Judge Éiteáin Cunningham convicted McNamee and fined him €200.
