The HSE have confirmed the permanent GP for the Dunkineely area.
Dr Janinda Muhandiramge will take up the role from Monday, January 30th.
The surgery has been without a GP since November, with Dr Charles Mc Manus providing cover for GMS patients from the Health Centre in Glenties.
A spokesperson for the HSE said: “The HSE would like to advise that Dr Janinda Muhandiramge has been formally appointed to the post with effect from Monday 30th January 2023 and will commence in the role as GP for Dunkineely on a full time basis.
“The HSE wishes him well in his new role.”
Joe McHugh, TD for Donegal, said:”I am delighted to learn this evening that the HSE have confirmed that Dr Janinda Muhandiramge has been formally appointed to the post with effect from Monday 30th January 2023 and will commence in the role as GP for Dunkineely on a full time basis – this is really good news after a period of worry for so many families.
“I wish to acknowledge Mandy Doyle and all the HSE officials for their hard work in ensuring this positive recruitment; they have been proactive from the minute the vacancy arose.
“Special thanks also to Dr Charles Mc Manus who continued providing cover for GMS patients from the Health Centre in Glenties while awaiting this new appointment.
“Thanks to Councillor Barry Sweeny who I have worked with on this issue and to Manus Boyle and all the constituents and families who were in touch with me over the last few months, who continued to highlight the importance of this issue.
“Best wishes to Dr. Muhandiramge in his new role”, concluded McHugh.
