The family-owned Gallagher’s Bakery in Ballybofey has changed ownership after 36 years, it has been announced.

Gallagher’s Bakery, owned by Seamus Gallagher and family, is renowned as a hub of breads, confectionary and cakes in the heart of Ballybofey.

The bakery has been sold to the O’Hehirs family of Sligo, who run over 18 food outlets across Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Longford, Mullingar and Athlone. Today, Saturday, will be the bakery’s last day of trading as Gallagher’s.

Seamus Gallagher told customers: “It is with deep regret that after 36 years in business the Gallagher family have decided to sell their home bakery in Ballybofey.

“We would like to thank all our loyal customers and friends for your valued custom over the years. We would also like to thank all our employees for all their dedication and hard work.”

O’Hehirs will be opening for business on Wednesday, the 1st February.

“We wish them well and every success in their new business,” Seamus added.

“Again, may we express our deepest gratitude to you, the best customers in the world and wish you all the very best in the future.!”
