Donegal County Council has been asked to seek immediate funding for crash barriers on the west side of Arranmore Island.
The lighthouse road was given much-needed surfacing works last year, but there are now fears over increased traffic and the lack of safety barriers.
The road runs close to steep cliffs.
“The nearest point to the cliffs is roughly 8-10 yards,” says local Councillor Micheal Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig.
“If a car was to lose control I wouldn’t like to think about it.”
Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig says that preventative measures are better than cure, and he believes it’s important that Donegal County Council finds funding to protect the community.
