‘Active Arranmore’ kicks off in style!

The launch of ‘Active Arranmore’, a new programme administered by Donegal Local Development Company (DLDC), took place on Saturday, the 28th of January in Comharchumann Forbartha & Fostaíochta Árainn Mhór.

‘Active Arranmore’ is a one-year programme, funded under the Empowering Communities programme, which aims to enhance and improve the health and wellbeing of inhabitants and empower individuals and community groups on Arranmore island.

Commenting on the day, Margaret Larkin, Community Development Manager, DLDC, said: “Active Arranmore got off to a great start with a fun-filled day of sport, games, music, and dancing.

“We’ve had a fantastic response from the people of Arranmore island. We are looking forward to working together to utilise the island’s recreational and natural facilities and enrich the experience of living in this unique rural location.”

‘yActive Arranmore’ was officially opened by World Champion Irish Dancer, Emily Colangelo, whose mother is a native of Arranmore Island.

Green Island, a traditional band made up of local musicians, Paddy “Dhomhnaill” Gallagher and Connie McCauley, entertained islanders. Sport activities and games were organised by Donegal Sports Partnership (DSP).

Myles Sweeney, Coordinator, DSP said: “The launch event was a fun introduction to the ‘Active Arranmore’ programme, which will include activities such as team sports, dancing classes, social events, and activity challenges. DSP is looking forward to working with the community and partner agencies to make this programme a success.”
