TCS funds life-saving defibrillator in Letterkenny business park

A new life-saving defibrillator has been installed at the entrance to the Letterkenny Business and Technology Park thanks to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

TCS, a leading global IT services, consulting, and business solutions organization, employs over 1,000 people in Donegal. Their Global Delivery Centre is based in the Letterkenny Business and Technology Park.

The defibrillator is monitored 24/7 by the TCS security team and is located on a popular walking and jogging route around the Business Park which is used by many of the employees at the site and local members of the public. The installation of the defibrillator at this busy location allows easy access to the local community in the case of an emergency.

AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) dramatically increase the chance of a person surviving in the event of suffering from a sudden cardiac arrest by delivering a shock to the heart which can help it to resume its normal rhythm.

Commenting on the life-saving initiative, Andrea McBride Head of the TCS Letterkenny Global Delivery Centre, said: “We are very pleased and honoured to be able to provide this life-saving piece of equipment to our community. Obviously, we hope it will never have to be used but it is reassuring for everyone to know that it is there if it is ever needed.”

There is an emergency mobile number on the defibrillator box which connects to the TCS Security Team who are on-site 24/7 and who monitor the box via camera.

“Once connected our security team will give the person calling a code to access the box and you can then take the defibrillator to use on the casualty,” explained TCS Facilities Manager, Paul Coyle.

“The defibrillator has voice instructions on how to use it and it will not activate if it senses a pulse.  There is therefore no risk to using it,” added Paul.

In addition, there are three defibrillators located on the TCS campus for staff use. They are located at the TCS Gym, in the Atrium, next to the rear entrance and one in the Tech Café.
