The Avian bird flu has been detected in a fox in Donegal.
The Department of Agriculture confirmed to RTE’s Countrywide last night that the virus was also found in a fox in Cork.
The two animals were confirmed positive in February 2022 (Donegal) and in September in Cork.
No other animals have been confirmed with the H5N1 Ireland and there’s been no spike in cases in Donegal since then
However, it has been found in a wide variety of mammals in the EU, UK, USA and Canada.
To date in 2023, four wild birds have been confirmed with the virus in Ireland in three counties – Offaly, Cork and Dublin.
