Pauric McGarvey will today be co-opted onto to Donegal County Council.
He will replace his uncle Ian McGarvey who was Ireland’s oldest councillor.
It is unlikely that Donegal’s newest local politician (pictured above with nephew Pauric) will serve on the council until the same age as his outgoing uncle.
At 92 years young, Ian was Ireland’s oldest councillor when he stepped down recently having served the people of Donegal without fear or favour.
Tributes to the Ramelton man were paid by his fellow councillors at the last meeting of the council.
Ian was first elected to Donegal County Council as an Independent in 2004 at 73 years young.
