The Glencolmcille Folk Village has proven to be the perfect backdrop for a new BBC drama airing this weekend.
An Dráma – Séamus Mac Murchaidh tells the story of notorious south Armagh outlaw Séamus Mac Murphy.
BBC2 NI will air a documentary on the folk hero this Sunday 19th February at 10pm, featuring gripping dramatic re-enactments filmed in Donegal. A full drama will also be streamed exclusively on the BBC iPlayer from tomorrow.
The Glen Folk Village was delighted to welcome a colourful cast and crew to film in the replica village. The drama stars Donegal actors Seán T. Ó Meallaigh, Colm Mac Giolla Easbuic, Brídín Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh and more.

The Irish Language Broadcast Fund programme ‘Díolta Faoina Luach’ follows Antaine Ó Donnaile uncovering the epic tale of a notorious south Armagh outlaw and the song that commemorates him. Séamus Mac Murphy inspired both terror and admiration in equal measure in those he met. The celebrated rapparee was finally captured by his arch enemy, Johnston of the Fews, but only after a crushing act of betrayal by his lover and some of his closest confidants.

Featuring breathtaking scenery, gripping dramatic re-enactments, and performances from some of the best traditional singers in Ulster, this documentary follows Antaine as he traces the footsteps of this elusive rapparee, eventually meeting some of his living relatives at their ancestral home near Crossmaglen. As Antaine discovers, the Mac Murphy saga illustrates the richness of the local Gaelic tradition, as well as giving a deep insight into the politics and history of south Armagh.
Produced by Macha Media, the documentary airs on Sunday 19th February at 10pm on BBC Two Northern Ireland.
