Netflix viewers will soon be immersed in the wild happenings of Inishowen’s Wild Ireland, as ‘The Bearman of Buncrana’ series launches on the major streaming series in March.

The documentary series, which aired on RTE in 2020, will be available on Netflix UK and Ireland from 1st March.

Animal lovers will get a new chance to watch the dramatic beginnings of this unique sanctuary in the Donegal woodlands.

‘Return of the Wild – The Bearman of Buncrana’ follows solicitor Killian McLaughlin on his mission to turn back the hands of time and return Ireland’s majestic native animals to their ancestral home.

Return of the Wild is a documentary series full of heart, passion, high-stakes emotions, big dreams, big predators and even bigger risks.

Over two years, Moondance Productions followed Killian across multiple countries and continents, stopping at nothing to make his wildlife park a reality.

RETURN OF THE WILD – The Bearman of Buncrana

By Killian’s side throughout, is his new wife Katie, a city girl and solicitor from Dublin, who has traded the rat race for the wilds of Donegal.

This project has the potential to break them financially and emotionally but when they fall in love with some animals in dire need, their commitment to bringing them home becomes unshakable.  Despite battling with big banks, red tape, paperwork and bureaucracy the couple remain committed to doing it anyway they can. Moondance has been at their side, documenting their dogged determination to make it happen.

Wild Ireland opened at the end of autumn 2019, fifteen months behind schedule and three times over the original budget. But the challenges didn’t stop there. The animals must be fed and cared for despite the global lockdown and the couple struggling with mounting costs and high emotions without an income. The documentary provides glimmers of hope in the arrival of a litter of 6 Wild Boar. What’s more, with the park re-opening its gates after Covid, Katie gives birth to a beautiful baby boy, Rígan.
