Letterkenny Councillor Jimmy Kavanagh has welcomed the additional parking spaces at Letterkenny Town Park which have now been completed and will be ready for use in the coming days.
The newly surfaced spaces will be open to the public year-round.
The development comes after Cllr. Kavanagh proposed a motion to the Letterkenny-Milford MD in March 2022 asking that the council provide further parking at the popular town park.
In response, the council indicated that the grass area adjacent to the existing car park could provide overflow parking during good weather in the summer and that they were trying to identify additional funding to surface the area to provide all-year-round parking.
Funding has since been provided from Minor Tourism grants and the area has now been resurfaced and will provide additional all year round parking.
Cllr Kavanagh said the expansion is badly needed as the town park has become more and more popular, and with further facilities planned at the Vestry and at the new adventure park area, the extra parking is very welcome.
The Fine Gael Councillor said: “I’d like to thank Donegal County Council for getting this work completed in a timely fashion ahead of the busy Summer season and acknowledge the yearlong commitment that the town gardener and his team give to keeping the park in pristine condition and making it such an attractive facility for locals and visitors to enjoy.
“I’d also like to thank and acknowledge the support of the Letterkenny MD councillors who supported the project through their minor tourism funds.”
