An appreciative east Donegal community has honoured their local hard working Garda Sergeant ahead of his retirement.

Sgt Joe Dorrian (main pic on right) was delighted to be presented with a specially commissioned collage featuring the various landmarks of Castlefin.

The beautiful work, by local artist Martin McCormick, was presented yesterday evening at the ‘About The Town’ community event in St. Mary’s Hall.

The presentation to Sgt Dorrian was made by Mary Killen from St Vincent De Paul and Mary Dunnion of the Castlefin Community Responder Group on behalf of the local community.

Sgt Dorrian, who has been stationed in the town for the past 16 years, is due to retire later this year.

Hundreds attended the show which was held in order to showcase the social opportunities that Castlefin has to offer. It contained a number of stands from local groups, activities and organisations and it was a great success.

The Castlefin community certainly did make Sergeant Dorrian’s day with their thoughtful gesture.
