Warning: Images may be distressing

Beachgoers in Port Arthur, Gweedore were met with a sad scene today as a dead baby dolphin was found washed up on the sand.

The small mammal was estimated to be only a few months old, making it even more tragic.

The cause of death is unknown at this time. Although the carcass was severely injured, it’s not known if this occurred before or after the stranding.

The beach is particularly busy today due to the sunny weather.

Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig confirmed that the stranding has been reported to Donegal County Council.
