Gardaí in Donegal are urging alcohol retailers to be on alert for ‘professional’ thieves.
Shoplifting gangs have been reported in other counties around Ireland in recent months, and gardaí say it’s only a matter of time before they plan to operate in Donegal.
Sergeant Eunan Walsh and Crime Prevention Officer Sergeant Paul Wallace are urging managers and owners of larger stores to review the security of their off-licences.
“Alcohol is the target for this organised crime group,” Sgt Walsh said.
“They come into the shop in groups of three or four, they maintain contact with each other while also monitoring staff and CCTV cameras
“They are very well practised and have managed to steal large quantities of alcohol at various locations in a very professional manner.”
Business owners are invited to get in contact with Sergeant Wallace at Letterkenny Garda Station if they require any security advice.
