Donegal woman’s joy as ‘true angels’ recreate missing ring

A Donegal woman who lost a precious engagement ring last year has received a gift to cherish forever, thanks to Letterkenny native Áine Commins and her husband Martin.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous for personal reasons, lost a wedding ring and an engagement ring shortly before Christmas. After weeks of searching and retracing her steps, they were nowhere to be found.

Donegal Daily published a local appeal, which caught the attention of Áine and Martin Commins, the owners of Bespoke Diamonds and Commins & Co. They were so moved by the appeal that they offered to provide their services to recreate the diamond engagement ring, free of charge.

The ring was recreated exactly to the woman’s preference and sent to Donegal within weeks.

Bespoke Diamonds, based in Dublin, specialises in custom designs and recreating rings. Using a combination of CAD design and 3D printing for samples, they remade the ring exactly as it was using pictures from the owner. The woman sent also had the original Diamond Certificate for the ring, which allowed Áine and Martin to get a lab-grown diamond of similar dimensions and quality.

“We are delighted to have been able to do this for her as we understand how important engagement rings are,” the Cummins said.

The woman told Donegal Daily: “The ring is amazing, I just love it, it is just simply stunning. I am so happy with it. That just made my year.

“It’s so good to see such good in the world when we tend to hear so many negatives. True angels they really are. They were amazing to work with from beginning to end, nothing was a bother for them.”

The woman also issued personal words of thanks to Aine and Martin, saying: “We can not thank you enough from beginning to end it has been amazing.  The presentation is beautiful. It feels so special to have been part of this journey with your amazing team.  I can’t thank you all enough.”

Áine and Martin took great care and craftsmanship to recreate the ring for the woman, who has asked to be called ‘S’.

They explained the process: “After speaking with “S and getting a couple of other images she had of her ring, we had our designer create a CAD design of the ring. This showed us how the ring would look from the front, side and top, and we sent these to S to approve.

“She asked for a couple of tweaks which we then did (making the diamond more visible from the sides and having more of a taper as the band approaches the centre diamond.

“Once she was happy with that, we did a 3D print of the ring using wax which we then posted to her – this ensures there are no errors and that the ring looks and feels like it is supposed to.

“S sent us her original Diamond Certificate (an official document which gives the full details of the ring’s qualities and specifications. This meant we could get a diamond of similar dimensions and quality. When she approved the wax, we put the ring into production 2 weeks later it was ready.

“We had hoped to have Áine meet S in Donegal but we couldn’t find a day to suit everyone.

“In the end, we posted it to S and she is over the moon with the result!”

Letterkenny native Aine and her husband Martin, now living in Dublin

“We have many customers from all over the country who buy rings from us without ever having to visit us! We believe our service is unique in Ireland as we do everything “in-house” and can provide 3D printed models of any ring.

“Many Donegal couples actually come visit us in Dublin to choose their engagement ring – in fact 64% of our Donegal customers come in together as opposed to the man coming in alone!

“You can see many other interesting details about our Donegal customers including the most popular engagement and wedding rings, gemstones, diamond shapes etc by visiting our page https://www.bespokediamonds.ie/engagement-rings-donegal/”
