Donegal had ‘no strategy’ in attack – Whelan

Donegal appeared to have “no strategy” in attack in the first half of their three-point loss to Armagh, according to Ciaran Whelan.

Paddy Carr’s side lie bottom of the table after their third away defeat of the campaign on Saturday night, Tyrone leapfrogging them in the table after a surprise win over Kerry yesterday.

Hobbled by the absence of key inside forward Paddy McBrearty, RTE Sunday Game analyst Whelan argues their biggest failing is their overall attacking strategy.

“They’d no strategy at all. It certainly appeared that way in the first half. They refuse to kick the ball. It was handpass, handpass, handpass,” the former Dublin star said.

“I think they need a complete rebuild from an attacking point of view. I think Jamie Brennan and (Paddy) McBrearty) when they come back, will benefit from a focal point inside on the square..

“They need to change the focus and get a target man on top of the square.”
