Carndonagh Community Hospital has reopened fully following a €4.2 million refurbishment.

While 23 long stay residents remained at the hospital during the refurbishment works, 11 short stay residents moved to Buncrana Community Hospital in April 2021.

The hospital underwent a radical improvement to the infrastructure, creating a modern and comfortable Residential Care Facility which will enhance the lived experience of the residents.

There are now 46 beds at Carndonagh Community Hospital, which provides Long term Residential Care, Palliative care, Respite care (including Dementia Specific), Assessment and Rehabilitation care.

Residents and their families were fully consulted prior to the commencement of the work and during all phases of the work. Their thoughts and wishes on the new decor of the building were respected at all times.

The works consisted of a full refurbishment of the residential area of the hospital including new bathrooms and ensuite bathrooms, a new Day and Dining Room extension for the residents,  reconfigured bedrooms with increased hoist coverage and new residents garden areas. All mechanical and electrical services were replaced.

Martin Collum, General Manager, Older Persons Services, CH CDLMS said, “We are delighted to have all our residents back at Carndonagh Community Hospital once again. The works have provided a fresh, restful setting for our residents and the new gardens will allow residents to enjoy leisure time outdoors.”
