Donegal County Council gritters are out in force this morning following a night of freezing lows.
A sharp frost set in in many parts of Donegal last night.
The snow is forecast to fall later this afternoon.
Met Eireann expects a bitterly cold day today, with temperatures dropping to just 1 to 3 degrees.
Forecasters said: “Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow will move in from the south and extend to most parts through the day, though the coastal northwest may stay dry. This will lead to poor visibility and hazardous road conditions.”
The snow will continue into the night: “Cold and breezy at first tonight with falls of sleet and snow giving rise to poor visibility and hazardous road conditions. The sleet and snow will gradually clear eastwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of -4 to -1 degrees, with northerly winds easing light and variable by dawn.”
A snow-ice warning will last until 11pm today, while a low temperature warning takes effect from 9pm tonight until 10am Friday.
