A Donegal councillor says he’s disappointed that traffic traveling from Letterkenny towards the Twin Towns will not be given the right of way at the notorious Kilross junction.
Improvement works at the busy junction are to get underway shortly.
However, Cllr Patrick McGowan is not happy that planning officials are not going to change the current traffic management arrangements.
Traffic delays at Kilross have prompted much debate over the years. At busy times, there are long queues as motorists coming from the Letterkenny direction have to stop at the junction leading on to the much quieter Convoy to Stranorlar road.

Cllr Patrick McGowan
Cllr McGowan said that while progress in addressing issues at the junction has been slow, he welcomes the news that work is at last going to start.
“I am however disappointed that the TII (Transport Infrastructure Ireland) have not agreed to give the Letterkenny to Stranorlar traffic the right of way which is the norm nationally.
“National Primary roads have priority over local and regional roads.
“The queues at Kilross sometimes are greater than traffic queues in Ballybofey and Stranorlar, and Kilross could be sorted a lot easier.
“I have raised the issue at all levels over many years at local and national level and look forward to seeing how the completed layout works.”
The improvement works aim, amongst other things, to curb the problem of cars avoiding long queues going into Ballybofey/Stranorlar by turning the opposite direction towards Convoy, then performing U-turns in the middle of the road.
