Preparations are well underway for Dunkineely’s first ever St Patrick’s parade.
Join the organisers in the town next Saturday, March 18, at 3pm, for their very own celebration of Ireland’s patron saint.
“We hope to have a great parade, with floats, bands, bikes and cars, plus much more entertainment going on in the town,” a spokesperson for the organisers said.
“If you want to join the parade, all floats, clubs and businesses are welcome – we also need volunteers to help on the day.”
To volunteer or enter the parade, contact the organisers at dunkineelycommunity@gmail.com
Floats and participants are asked to meet at 2:30pm at the Naomh Ultan GAA carpark.
The 18 th of March is Sheelagh’s day. Traditionally, this was celebrated the day after the
Feast of St. Patrick and coincided with the Christian festivities.
According to Irish folklore and mythology, Sheelagh was either the wife or mother of St. Patrick, and the holiday served to commemorate her life.
