The FAI Youth Interprovincial tournament made a welcome return over the weekend – and it was the Connacht FA side who were crowned winners after a great three days of action.

The tournament was held in Dublin’s AUL Complex and Oscar Traynor Centre. The competition wasn’t staged since 2019 due to Covid. Munster FA went into the 2023 event as title-holders.

The Ulster FA side kicked off their tournament on Friday night and despite a fine performance, narrowly lost out to Connacht by 2-1.

On Saturday they were beaten 5-1 by a strong Munster side  and then on Sunday morning, they rounded off their weekend against Leinster, losing 2-1.

Connacht and Munster drew 0-0 on Sunday morning, a result which was good enough for Connacht to be crowned tournament winners.

Ulster FA Squad: Goalkeepers: Davin McLaughlin (Carndonagh), Donal O’Brien (Cockhill Celtic); Defenders: Rian Gallagher (Cockhill Celtic), Jamie Doherty (Carndonagh), Taylor Bonner (Culdaff), Bobby Hennigan (Ballybofey United), Ethan McCaffrey (Keadue Rovers), Jack Doherty (Clonmany Shamrocks), Adam McCullagh (Ballybofey United), Mason McDaid (Cockhill Celtic); Midfielders: Conor Graham (Cockhill Celtic), Tiernan Doherty (Carndonagh), Ross Darren (Carndonagh), Liam McWeeney (Carndonagh), Barrie McGhee (Ballybofey United), Shay Maloney (Ballyraine); Forwards: Robbie Murphy (Letterkenny Rovers), Sam Harvey (Letterkenny Rovers), Faolan Gibson (Letterkenny Rovers), Daithi McMahon (Ballybofey United).
