The owners of the Mulroy Woods Hotel have moved to assure customers that the hotel will remain open as normal following a recent sale.

Tricia and Marty Kelly, who purchased The Milford Inn 10 years ago, have this week announced that the revamped Mulroy Woods Hotel is changing hands.

The hotel, a major employer in Milford, has been sold to an established hotel group with numerous properties throughout Ireland.

The Kelly family said the decision to sell was influenced by their personal circumstances.

“With the recent birth our son and our young daughter growing up so fast we have made the decision to focus on our young family and spend precious family time with them, they are only small for such a short while,” Tricia and Marty Kelly said in a statement.

The Kellys have assured all wedding couples and voucher holders that the hotel will remain hotel as normal and all weddings and functions will continue as planned.

Looking back on the past decade, they said: “Having purchased The Milford Inn 10 years ago, following a 2-year period of closure, the hotel reopening has injected life back into the area as the hotel is a central fixture within local community life and a central point for visitors to explore the Fanad Peninsula.

“Following its re-christening as Mulroy Woods Hotel, it has gone from strength to strength. Completely renovated from inside and out we are very proud to have the Hotel accredited 4-star status by Failte Ireland. This was the ultimate award in a string of awards for ‘The Woods’ including – Lucinda O Sullivans Great Places to Stay and Eat 5 years running, 4 time winner of Wedding Venue of the Year Ulster, Great Irish breakfast, to mention but a few. Our amazing team members were also accredited many individual awards down through the years.

“We have enjoyed our time at the hotel immensely and while ownership has changed, the management and team will continue to carry the Mulroy Woods flag into the future, under the strong leadership of General Manager Caroline Robinson.”

“Through the years it was our pleasure to support local charities & schools, sponsoring cars in the Donegal International Rally & Milford GAA amongst many others, with our most recent Charity Night in aid of the Creeslough Community Support Fund.

“We would like to thank everyone who visited the hotel whether it was to celebrate a wedding, birthday party, jive at the country nights or just dropping in for a bite to eat. We really have appreciated your custom.
Being open all year round the hotel has also become a major employer in the area with in-excess of 80+ staff in the summer months and a core staff of 50 in the shoulder months.

“Lastly, we would like to thank our staff past & present who have helped us along the way to bring the Hotel to where it is today. Having secured seasoned hoteliers & with Caroline at the helm, we can rest assured that we have secured the future of Mulroy Woods Hotel for decades to come.

“All the very best for the future,
Tricia & Marty, Harper & baby Lennon x”
