High tides cause flooding on main road into Letterkenny

The River Swilly overflowed this morning close to the Port Bridge threatening local businesses.

Water from the river came onto the main road just after 6am due to high tides and heavy overnight rain.

Traffic management was put in place for cars to avoid flooded roads including the outbound lane.

Both Gardai and the council are on hand and drivers have been urged to use caution.

High tides are due in the area again tomorrow morning at 7.10am.

Thanks to David McGloin for the picture above of the flooded road.
