A man has been arrested following an incident in which an unmarked Garda car was damaged outside Convoy yesterday.

The two car collision happened on the R236 at Convoy just before 5pm.

Neither the Garda driving the patrol car or the other driver were injured during the incident.

The man driving the civilian car was arrested and is due to appear before a future sitting of Letterkenny District Court.

A spokesperson for the Garda press office told Donegal Daily “One of these cars was an on duty official Garda vehicle and driven by a male Garda member.

“This Garda member did not receive medical attention at the scene. He has subsequently reported unfit to return to duty.

“The driver of the other vehicle, a man aged in his late 30s, did not receive medical attention at the scene.

“He was arrested and taken to Letterkenny Garda Station. He was later charged and released to appear before Letterkenny District Court at a later date.”

These spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was travelling in the area at this time and who may have camera (dash cam) footage to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

Anyone with any information in relation to this incident should contact Letterkenny Garda Station on 074 916 7100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
