Paddy Carr has stepped down from the role of Donegal manager after five months in the job.
CLG Dhún na nGall confirmed his resignation with immediate effect.
Carr issued a statement this afternoon: “Following a discussion with some senior members of the Donegal football team, I want to announce that I’m stepping away from the position of Donegal team Manager with immediate effect. I want nothing more than the best for Donegal and that will never change”.
Donegal is facing almost-certain relegation in the League, with just one match left against Roscommon this Sunday, and a minor miracle needed for them to stay in Division One.
It is understood that Carr’s head coach Aidan O’Rourke will take the team in their last league encounter against Roscommon this Sunday.
Carr’s first league game in charge saw Donegal making an impressive win over Kerry in January, but the team’s backs have been to the wall since then.
He was appointed in October on a two-year term with a review planned following the first year.
His backroom team included former Armagh player Aidan O’Rourke and former Derry player Paddy Bradley.
Reports of his departure come as Donegal GAA is also dealing with the fall-out from Karl Lacey’s departure as Head of Academy Development.
A special meeting of the County Committee has been called for Thursday night and the only item on the agenda is the academy. Club delegates will no doubt also seek an update on Carr’s situation at tomorrow night’s meeting which takes place in the GAA Training Centre in Convoy.
