Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a body of a man in his 70s in Carndonagh.

The incident is being treated as a personal tragedy.

The discovery was reported at lunchtime this afternoon. Foul play is not suspected at this time and a file is due to be prepared in accordance with the Coroners Acts.

Gardaí were later made aware that a video in connection with the incident is in circulation.

A garda spokesperson issued a call to the public to be respectful at this sad time: “We urge anybody who may receive the video or who is already in possession of it to delete it immediately and not to share it out of respect and compassion for the family involved. Thank you.”
