Judge pleads for more communication between legal parties before court

March 28, 2023

A Donegal judge has pleaded with legal practitioners and Gardai to communicate more before bringing cases to court.

Judge Ms Éiteáin Cunningham made her remarks at a sitting of Buncrana District Court.

It followed a case in which an application to change status by one party to the proceedings not on notice to another party was made in court earlier today.

One of the solicitors involved in the case said he had his clients in court ready to defend his case and had not been told there was a change of status.

The case was adjourned after Garda Inspector Seamus McGonigle said he felt that both cases were related and they should be heard together.

Judge Cunningham said it does not seem to be the case in Co Donegal courts that communications are open between between the various parties.

She asked the various parties to “communicate better” before coming to court.
